Winter Day Camp | Spring Day Camp| Summer Days

The Morris Farm Winter Day Camp

Come join The Morris Farm staff during February vacation for fun on the farm. Monday become a farmer on Farm Work and Play day, spending time with the animals and creating a carpentry project to take home. Tuesday test and improve your winter survival skills as we learn how to build a fire, tie useful knots and much more! Wednesday is a day spent trying to find those wild animals who don't live withing the farm's fences. Thursday visit with the farm's sheep and learn about all that can be made from wool. Friday celebrate the end of the week by helping to prepare a feast of fall food. Children can sign up for one day or several. [img] Winter tug-of-war

 

$40/day or $175 for the week; scholarship funds available. Aftercare is $5 per day or $20 per week

 

Limit 15 campers per week, ages 6-11.

When: February 2009

8:30am-3:00 with aftercare from 3:00-4:30pm.

The Morris Farm Spring Day Camp

At the Morris Farm's Spring Day Camp, young farmers will experience first hand nature, gardening and animals. Each day has its own theme focused on getting kids outside: fostering an appreciation for agriculture and our environment through creative thinking and activities. Daily activities will include chores, crafts, hikes, and science. Kids may sign up for a day at a time or the whole week, but sign up early as space is limited!

Themes:  Monday - Farm Exploration; Tuesday - All About Chickens; Wednesday - Bunnymania; Thursday - Out in the Gardens; Friday -It's all about Kids.

When: April 21-25, 2008 and will run from 8:30-3:00 with aftercare from 3:00 - 4:30 pm

Cost: $40/ day or $175/ week, aftercare is an additional $5/day or $20/week, scholarship funds available (scholarship requests are due by March 31, 2008 - download form here)


Summer Days at the Morris Farm

Summer on a farm…the adventures are endless and the learning comes naturally! At the Morris Farm's summer day camp, kids have fun while they learn about ecology, the environment, and the plants and animals that we depend on for food and clothing. [img] Summer DaysEvery week includes animal chores, garden work, games, hands-on craft and science activities. Each week offers different aproaches to activities based on the week's theme. During farm chores, children care for Samson the pig, chickens, and a variety of guest animals.

When: Eight (8) one week sessions, June 30 - August 22, 2008.   8:30 am- 3:00 pm with an aftercare option until 4:30 pm.

Who:

Limit 20 campers per week, ages 6-14

Cost:

June 30 - July 3 $145 - all other weeks $180

Love A Parade: June 30-July 3

We might even get to march in the Wiscasset July 4th parade!

Summer is a time to celebrate our wonderful environment! Take part in the fun and spend the week becoming an expert farmer.

  • Learn how to grow a garden, train a lamb, and wash a chicken.
  • Get hands-on in the garden, and help make sure we have plenty of food for the farm and the community.
  • Practice parading around with lambs and kids.
  • Build a parade float to show off our gardens.

Earth-Friendly Farm: July 7-July 11

The Morris Farm uses earth-friendly farming methods, but just what does that mean? We'll spend the week exploring the farm to answer this question, and discover a few ways everyone can be earth-friendly along the way.

  • Learn why the Morris Farm has horses, and see them at work.
  • Use worms to transform leftover food into dirt.
  • Cook yummy treats using solar power.
  • Use old fashioned tools and play old fashioned games.

Farm Animals and Gardens: July 14-18

Why are local farms so important? Come and learn how to make gardens beautiful and how to take care of our farm animals. We'll spend some quality time with the animals while watching the gardens grow and enjoy cooking with fresh foods.

  • Make breads and cakes using farm fresh eggs and other farm ingredients.
  • Dye wool using plants.
  • Learn how to spin yarn right from bunnies, sheep, and goats.
  • Learn the fun and creative ways of weaving and knitting the yarn you make.

Field, Forest, & Pond: July 21-25

There's more to a farm than goardens and animals! Come spend a week exploring the woods, streams, and pond around the farm. This is a great opportunity for older kids or kids with a knack for science.

  • Search for pond critters and learn what they can tell us about the water.
  • Track evidence of wild animals in the forest.
  • Build fairy houses in the woods.
  • See how work horses help in fields.

Teen Farm Adventures :  July 28 - August 1

Do you like to explore nature? Join us for a week of farm work, hiking, creating, and cooking.

Note: This camp includes an overnight from Thursday to Friday, and will end at noon on Friday (there will be no Friday aftercare.)

  • Make your own trail mix, yogurt, and pretzels.
  • Hike through the Forest and learn all about trees.
  • Learn about the lives of pond creatures, bugs, and butterflies.
  • Work in the community gardens and bring home your harvested produce.
  • Build a teepee and sleep in a yurt.

Explorers!: August 4-8

Do you love the outdoors so much that you never want to go back inside? This week, we'll learn the skills to become an expert explorer and camper.

Note: This camp includes an overnight from Thursday to Friday, and will end at noon on Friday (there will be no Friday aftercare.)

  • Explore the secret world of gardens, fields, and ponds.
  • Creat new recipes using food from the farm.
  • Use your imagination to visit the night galaxy on our annual sleep-over.

Harvest Feast:  August 11 - 15

The gardens are at their height of production and there is plenty of food to harvest! Come and create a smorgasbord of garden fresh recipes for the enjoyment of all. We'll be making all sorts of tasty treats, including of course, ice cream!

  • Pick fresh veggies from the garden.
  • Bake fresh bread from grain you harvest and thresh.
  • Make dyes, teas, salads, salves, and bouquets from herbs and flowers.
  • Make cheese and butter from fresh goat's milk.

Country Fair: August 18-22

Everyone loves a Country Fair. Campers will put together a good old fashioned country fair to celebrate the end of Summer Days camp. We will set up a Country Fair where we will display vegetables and flowers from the gardens, exhibit crafts we made, show off the farm animals...and sample homemade foods. Invite parents and friends on Friday to see and enjoy all the great things that we did at camp.

  • Plan a country fair and display your talents to friends and family.
  • Make crafts, bake cookies, and garden.
  • Train animals for the show ring.
  • And have FUN.
